ME

i'M COMING MALACCA !

Hotel Puri Melaka is a boutique hotel in the heart of the old city of Malacca. It is a 30 minute drive from the North-South Highway (Malacca/Ayer Keroh exit), and 10 minute drive from the bus station (Sentral). Surrounded by antique and bric-a-brac shops, it is only a stroll away from Malacca's historical precinct.

Airwell

The hotel is a carefully restored Peranakan house which once belonged to the decendants of an eminent philanthropist and rubber plantation owner, Tan Kim Seng. Extending 100 metres long, its distinct characteristics are its beautiful and intricately decorated façade and the impressive length of the house. Retaining its old charm, Hotel Puri Melaka provides modern amenities to its hotel guests.
Swallon Hall

They even have their History Room at the hotel .So i get to know more about the hotel.
The love one keep mention Peranakans , i keep thinking what is he talking ? Why keep mention that words. Now i get to know why , and what it means.

Who are the Peranakans? The word Peranakan was originally used in Indonesia for the descendants of immigrant Chinese who have forgotten their own language and integrated and adopted some local Malay custom, and practice intermarriage with the natives. Legend has it that this unique ethnic group could be traced back to the 15th century. China under the Ming Emperor traded far and wide. In an effort to strengthen ties with the rich and strategic port of Malacca, betrothed his daughter to the Malacca ruler. The princess and her entourage of about 500 formed the first permanent Chinese settlement in Malacca at Bukit China (or China Hill). These early settlers married the local brides and gave rise to the first generation Peranakan, the male being known as 'Baba' and the female as 'Nyonya'. The descendants of these mixed marriages later married within their own community. As a result, Malay became the linqua franca of their offsprings. However, the babas and nyonyas continued to practise the customs and traditions of their Chinese forefathers, while at the same time absorbed and assimilated some local way of life especially in the attires of the nyonyas and in food preparation.

I find out that the history of MALACCA very interesting .

Check in now ! Let's see how nice was the hotel room ! You would never believe that a small little place , inside was so big !

Historical records reveal that Ming Dynasty’s Admiral Cheng Ho (Zheng He) visited Melaka (Malacca) at least five times during his famous seven voyages to the Western Ocean (Southeast Asia, Indian Ocean, Middle East and Africa). He set up a huge warehouse complex along the northern side of the Melaka River. Thus far, there has been no serious investigation made on this fascinating topic. Some people claim that Zheng He’s warehouse was located in Bukit Cina because there is a Sampo (or San Bao referring to Cheng Ho) well and the area is named Sampo Hill. However, many others do not agree. The exact location of Cheng Ho’s warehouse is certainly worth serious study.

Cheng Ho or Zheng He , 1371-c.1433, admiral, diplomat, and explorer during China's Ming dynasty. At 10 he was captured by Chinese troops in Yunnan, castrated, and sent into the army. He rose in the ranks, became an officer, and in 1404 was named Grand Eunuch by Emperor Yung-lo . The following year the emperor selected him to lead the first of seven epic expeditions (1405-33) that served to expand Chinese political influence and increase its tribute and trade. Sailing to SE Asia (1405-07), he commanded 62 ships laden with porcelain, lacquer, silk, gems, and other luxury goods. Subsequently commanding treasure fleets ranging from about 50 to more than 100 vessels, some of which were 500 ft (153 m) long, he also later sailed to India,Sri Lanka, Arabia, E Africa, and Egypt. On his fourth voyage (1413-15), Cheng returned with envoys from 30 foreign states who rendered homage to the emperor and sailed home on his sixth voyage (1421-23). Although China returned to an isolationist policy after the emperor's death (1424), Cheng made one last voyage (1431-33). A controversial theory posits that Cheng discovered the New World during his 1420s voyage, some 70 years before Columbus.

Before this, they do show us a movie , tell us more about the history of Malacca.
Is really interesting.

sword of power

They use all this to trade other things they need.

According to the Malaysian history, Sultan Mansur Shah (ruled 1459–1477) dispatched Tun Perpatih Putih as his envoy to China and carried a letter from the Sultan to the Ming Emperor. Tun Perpatih succeeded in impressing the Emperor of Ming with the fame and grandeur of Sultan Mansur Shah. In the year 1459, a princess Hang Li Po (or Hang Liu), was sent by the emperor of Ming to marry Malacca Sultan Mansur Shah (ruled 1459–1477).[42] The princess came with her entourage 500 sons of ministers and a few hundred handmaidens. They eventually settled in Bukit Cina, Malacca. Considering the population of Malacca at that time, it is likely that a significant fraction of the bumiputra intermarried with them. The descendants of these mixed marriages are locally known today asperanakan and still use the honorifics Baba (male title) and Nyonya (female title).

In Malaysia today, many people believe it was Admiral Zheng He (died 1433) who sent princess Hang Li Po to Malacca in year 1459. However there is no record of Hang Li Po (or Hang Liu) in Ming documents, she is known only from Malacca folklore.
